Abundance Academy
A Community Learning Experience Rooted in History, Creativity, and Collective Power
Inspired by the legacy of Freedom Schools and rooted in the belief that abundance lives within our people, Abundance Academy is a six-session community learning experience designed to strengthen understanding of Black history in Eastern North Carolina while preparing participants to actively contribute to Blackacre’s Black August celebration.
What to Expect
Participants in Abundance Academy will:
Engage in guided learning experiences rooted in local Black history and culture
Learn from community leaders, artists, historians, and cultural workers
Explore creativity, storytelling, land, and collective memory
Collaborate with peers to design a public-facing exhibit or experience for Blackacre’s Black August celebration
Who Should Apply
Abundance Academy is open to:
Community members curious about local history and culture
Youth and emerging leaders interested in creative and civic leadership
Artists, storytellers, and cultural workers
Anyone committed to learning, collaboration, and community care
